About Us

Mission Statement

As a 501(C)(3) all volunteer organization, our mission at FastDogs-FastFriends: Greyhound Adoption is to place these wonderful hounds into safe, loving homes. Whether they are retired directly from a track (some physically and/or emotionally injured), a greyhound placed at Rabies Animal Control or any other facility, or perhaps someone's pet who, for whatever reason, must be surrendered, makes no difference to us. Once they come into the FastDogs family, every dog receives loving care. Their medical needs (including spay/neuter and vaccinations) are tended to, and they remain with us until an appropriate home is found - however long it takes.

After visiting the FastDogs-FastFriends website many times in 2001, I adopted my best friend Prince Harry! A gorgeous 74-pound red brindle that looks like a tiger but loves like a baby. I became more involved over time by showing up to meet and greets and volunteering at the adoption events. In December of 2007 I decided to take the position of adoption coordinator and President, envisioning many positive changes that a new member of the board can bring.

I became a part of the FastDogs family after adopting our first Greyhound, Frodo, about 5 years ago. I’ve come full circle with Greyhounds from the time I first got up close to one way back in the early 1970’s when I worked for the Phoenix Greyhound Racetrack. I knew at that time how special these dogs were, and vowed to have one someday. Through the years my priorities shifted, and now I get to find homes, and talk to the public on behalf of these fantastic beasts. I’m privileged to have three of them and just enjoy watching them race in the backyard! Track life is just too hard. In the backyard no one cares who wins! It’s a Greyt feeling and I get to do this all the time. I also work as a professional animal sitter. I guess the animals keep me grounded and very much humbled.

I got involved with FastDogs-FastFriends Greyhound Adoption when I adopted my two boy-hounds six years ago. Since that time I've been working with the FDFF group, performing all sorts of functions: finalizing adoptions, transferring hounds to/from the vet's office as well as to foster and adoptive homes, working many of the FDFF events and all of our annual birthday parties, getting donations, and handling various crises. During the past five years I'd been the first line of contact since I handled all phone calls coming in on the FDFF cell phone. We all now share that task. I love speaking with all of you who already have or who are interested in sharing your lives with one of these magnificent creatures.

I became involved with greyhounds in 1994 with the adoption of my first greyhound, Lily. She inspired me and a couple of friends to form Nittany Greyhounds, an adoption group in Pennsylvania. In 2005, after moving to Arizona with my greyhound Jasmine, I joined FastDogs-FastFriends and adopted two more hounds, Ginger and Tego. I can't imagine not having a greyhound or two or three in my life. One couldn't ask for a better canine companion.
