RoamEO Pet Monitor System REVIEW
Global Positioning System (GPS) is a great thing to have, regardless of your technical expertise. While the technology isn’t new per se, it wasn’t available to the general public for a long time. Only a couple of years or a decade ago has it become available to the average consumer. It has been since implemented into a vast variety of devices, including dog collars. It’s great news for pet owners who are worried about losing their furry friends.
However, in order to find the best-suiting monitoring system for your pet, you have to pay attention to a couple of things. It may seem like an exhausting task, but we are here to make it easier for you. Take a moment and check out our full reviews. We have covered the top-rated units on the market and described their advantages and shortcomings in detail so that you don’t have to conduct research on your own and collect data from a dozen sources. This particular monitoring system offers neat features and great versatility.
- No annual subscription
- Updates every few seconds
- Collar fits 12- 24-inch neck sizes
- Auto power on
- Rechargeable Li-Ion batteries
The collar design is decent. We would have liked to see it being a bit more minimalistic, but it’s not cumbersome by any means. It’s comfortable and most importantly – it doesn’t cause skin irritation due to friction. The strap is made of fairly thick rubber which guarantees longevity and is quite trustworthy. It’s also weather-resistant meaning it works well in rainy and snowy conditions.
The handheld receiver’s dimensions are relatively small. In fact, it’s not bigger than an average smartphone. The display is sufficiently large and quite readable. It is also backlit which means you can safely use the unit during nighttime. There are a few symbols on the display that you need to keep an eye on, but it’s not a complicated thing at all. Truth be told, it’s a matter of common sense if you see a satellite symbol, it means the device is connected to the network. If you don’t know what some of them mean, feel free to refer to the user manual.
The included Li-Ion batteries last about 24 hours before a recharge is needed. Therefore, you shouldn’t be worried too much about the battery life in the first place. There have been cases in which weak batteries caused loss of signal, but it’s not a frequent occurrence. There are two batteries included with the product, both for the receiver and the collar. In other words, if you charge them simultaneously, you can expect a full day’s worth of charge. In case that isn’t enough, you can always bring the charger with you as it’s a pretty small piece. However, you will need access to an electric outlet in order to recharge the batteries.
• Compact receiver
• Good battery life
• Can display unreliable data
What We Liked about It
The first thing we liked is the simplicity of this unit. While some other models tend to confuse new users, this one is pretty straightforward. In fact, you can use it right out of the box, no setup needed. The collar is quite comfortable and has a wide range of sizes.
Furthermore, you can use two collars with one system. Therefore, if you have two dogs, you don’t have to purchase two receivers at once. On the other hand, if you have three or more pets, an additional receiver is needed. The price is probably the biggest upside of this unit when compared to the others. However, that means it does have some limitations which may not suit every pet owner’s requirements and expectations.
The absence of mandatory monthly or yearly subscription is the real money saver here. While most other models require some kind of monthly fee, using this one is completely free for life.
What We didn’t Like
Reliability is a massive question mark for this particular model. It is a decent device, there is no question about it, but it does tend to struggle with reliability and occasional signal loss. It’s not a frequent occurrence, but quite a few people complained about it, so we feel it needs to be mentioned.
The saying “You get what you paid for” applies to this unit. It’s quite an affordable piece, but it also lacks some functionality in comparison to other available models. In other words, it’s not a premium piece, to say the least.
This certainly isn’t the best product on the market, but it’s definitely one that’s worth checking out, especially if your demands aren’t particularly high. In simpler terms, if you don’t need a super precise evaluation of distance and proximity, this model should be a decent solution. It will display the approximate distance, but it’s not as precise as one would expect.
Most people buy this unit because of its price-to-features ratio. As we said, it’s not the best thing you can get, but it’s trustworthy, comfortable, and affordable. Those three elements should be enough if you’re looking for a neat GPS monitor system.
