Let’s Talk Dog Strollers

dog-in-a-stroller

Yes, I said it, dog strollers. This is becoming quite a market. People are treating their little furry friends more like part of the family than ever before, and why should it stop in the home? When we are out on our morning jog or afternoon walk, why not take our companion with us? Now, I now that they have leashes and harnesses for these activities.

However, when you are out on a busy street or have a little pup that couldn’t handle the heavy mileage, wouldn’t it be nice to have something to walk them in? I wouldn’t think that you are going to stuff your Great Dane into one of these (though they do make them that size), but your little Maltese or Mini Pincher would be perfect for a dog stroller. We will take a look at a few of the more popular models on the market today and give you our pros, cons and value for the money review.

BestPet Posh Pet Stroller

BestPet-Posh-Pet-Stroller

PROS:

· Easy To Assemble

· Basket Is Low To Ground So Pet Feels Comfortable and Secure

· Comes In a Variety of Colors

· Lightweight

· Easy To Maneuver

· Small Covered Storage Bin and Drink Holder in Handle

· Zip Mesh Screen

CONS:

· Not Good Off Pavement

· Handle Is Low 35” From Ground

· No Mesh Screen for Your Dog to See You or See Your Dog

· Small Plastic Wheels Make for an Unsmooth Ride

· Hard Bottom Basket with Light Pad Cover

· Lightweight Materials so Long Term Durability May Be an Issue

From what we see about this dog stroller, it is easy to use and assemble. The materials are lightweight and folds for easy storage. It also comes in several colors and prints. The faults seem to lie in the overall construction. The materials being lightweight brings the durability into question. The fact that there is no back mesh to see your pet or for them to see you is not a plus on our list either.

This might be a good introduction to the world of dog strollers, but if you plan on taking this anywhere except even pavement you may want to consider an upgrade to something with a rubber wheel construction. If you’re on the taller side, the handle height is also going to be an issue as it is only 35” off the ground.

CONS:

· Assembly Instructions are Not Clear

· A Bit Difficult to Assemble

· Plastic Wheels Make for an Unsmooth Ride

· Wheels Held in Place With Pins Not Bolts

· Lightweight Materials so Long Term Durability May Be an Issue

While the OxGord 3 wheel dog stroller seems to be a bit better constructed and has more features than our first review, it does not seem to have great value for its users. This was a 3.5 star item on Amazon. We would agree that it is not the best dog stroller on the market but, for us, the price difference between the two made this one worth the extra money over the less expensive model.

The assembly instructions do leave a great deal to be desired. The overall construction, while not awful, could be improved on for better long term durability. We do feel, though, that we can get more bang for our buck out of some of the other options we have in the next reviews. But for the lower price point on your dog stroller, this had the most features and best performance.

OxGord-Pet-Stroller-Cat-Dog-Easy-Walk-Folding-Travel-Carrier-Carriage

· “Pet Viewer” Peak Top Window

· Rear Security Break

· 2 Cup Holder Handle

CONS:

· Assembly Is a Bit Difficult

· Plastic Wheels Make for an Unsmooth Ride

· Lightweight Materials so Long Term Durability May Be an Issue

Of the lower price point dog strollers, this one earned our best rating. It was a bit more difficult to assemble, but had very good overall quality. The wheels, again being plastic, do make the ride a bit noisy and unsmooth but this is true for all of the pet strollers in this price range. The large undercarriage storage compartment made bringing snacks and toys easy. The “Peak Top Window” allows for constant or easy viewing of your pup. We also liked the fact that you can choose between the three and four wheel design based on preference.

The one thing that we noticed though was the weight limit. While it did have a rating for 30 pounds, we feel a 20 pound limit would be more appropriate. When the weight in the carriage got higher, the steering got harder. If you were to do 30 pounds total, between your dog and supplies in the carriage, you would probably be alright.

Pet-Gear-No-Zip-Special-Edition-Pet-Stroller

· Multiple Window Design for Breathability

· Large Carry Compartment and Undercarriage Storage

· Lightweight

· 3 Wheel Design with Front Wheel Lock for Easy Mobility and Rough Terrain Navigation

· Folds for Compact Storage

· Zip Mesh Screen With Multiple Direction View

· 40” Handle Height

· Available in Several Colors and Patterns

· Top Mesh Window Panel

· Rear Security Break

· 2 Cup Holder Handle

No Zip Entry System

CONS:

· Questionable Stitch Pattern - Long Term Durability May Be an Issue

We looked for a downside to this dog stroller and all we could find was a questionable stitching pattern used along the carrier basket. As we looked at reviews from customers that had used this for a period of time, our thoughts were backed up. While we did not have any issues ourselves, this could be an issue for the long term use.

The stroller itself is a good quality dog stroller. The materials are durable and weather proof. The tubing is strong and seems like it will last for a long time. The air ride tires provide a comfortable and noise free ride. Overall, we think this would be a good moderate price pet stroller for any small to medium dog owner.

Aosom Elite II Pet Dog Bike Bicycle Trailer Stroller Jogger w/ Suspension

Cost ; $$$$

Overall Value : 4/5

Weight Limit : 88 Lbs

Aosom-Elite-II-Pet-Dog-Bike-Bicycle-Trailer-Stroller-Jogger-w-Suspension

PROS:

· Multiple Window Design for Breathability

· 2 in 1 Design (Dog Stroller and Dog Bike Trailer)

· 3 Large Wheel Design Easy Mobility and Rough Terrain Navigation

· Folds for Compact Storage

· Zip Mesh Screen With Multiple Direction View

· Plastic Windshield for Pet Comfort

· Bike Hitch Included

· Dual Suspension

CONS:

· No Wheel Lock

· Large Size is Cumbersome

· Heavy in Weight

· Assembly Instructions Hard to Follow

Well, we love it. The quality is terrific, the versatility is awesome, and the ease of use is there. The assembly instructions were a bit tough (to say the least) to follow, but we got through it with a little technical know-how. The bike hitch is plastic, but it seems quite durable and we are not overly concerned with it.

It breaks down fast with no tools and is easy to transform from dog stroller to dog trailer. There is no wheel lock when using it as a stroller, so beware of parking on hills. It is a bit heavy to maneuver when folded down. Other than these few things, this is a great overall value and on our highly recommended list.

Pet Gear Expedition Pet Stroller

Cost : $$$$$

Overall Value : 3.5/5

· Extra Large Capacity

· Double Wheel Swivel Design Easy Mobility and Rough Terrain Navigation

· Folds for Compact Storage

· Removable Inner Liner

· Wheel Brake

Easy to Assemble

CONS:

· Will Not Fit Through Standard Doorway

· Large Size is Cumbersome

· Heavy in Weight

· No Weatherproof Cover

· Plastic Wheels

This is by far the largest of the pet strollers we have seen. It says you can accommodate up to a 150 pound dog or cat (I guess a Tiger or something). I would think, upon examination, that may be a stretch. I would guess that you could fit a 100 – 120 pound animal in this dog stroller comfortably. The construction seems to be good for the size of the stroller.

I wish that they had gone with the pneumatic tire on this for a more comfortable and less noisy ride. The price point would reflect that better tires should have been used. There are limited choices when it comes to dog strollers of this size so we would rank this as one of the best values in this category.

The Dog Stroller Summary

When it comes to choosing your dog stroller, pet stroller or pet carrier, do your research. Price is always going to be a factor for most of us, but you want the best overall value for your dollar. Jumping up a few dollars may get you a much better value. These are great inventions. They allow us to get our pet outside, even if there are medical issues. We have given you the list of what we feel are the best values in several price points.

There are benefits and downfalls to all of them. Look at customer reviews on several sites, not just one, to get a better feel for what people find to be useful and not so useful. Always, always, always, pay attention to the return policy. You are going to want to make sure your pup enjoys your new dog stroller, so if they don’t you want to be able to return or exchange it for another model. Happy Strollering!!!
